THE ART OF THE INTERVIEW, With Christian McEwen: May 5th, 2012: 10:00am-12:00pm

McEwen is the author of World Enough & Time: On Creativity and Slowing Down  (2011), which itself includes a number of artist-interviews.

In this hands-on workshop, Christian will introduce the “art of the interview” through structured exercises, mini-lectures, and discussion. She will also provide a basic bibliography. If time allows, she will share excerpts from her own most recent interviews.  The workshop will be held at the Valley Time Trade Office, 126 Main Street, Northampton.

You must RSVP to Christian directly at christianmcewen@aol.com to attend this workshop.

Biography:

In the past three years, Christian McEwen has conducted more than 70 hour-long interviews for use as creative catalyst in the community. She has spoken with some 50 women about their relationship to money as basis for her play, LEGAL TENDER: Women & the Secret Life of Money, and its sister-project, MONEY STORIES. She has also interviewed more than 25 visiting poets about their lives and creative practice, a project she calls SPARKS FROM THE ANVIL.Such story-telling is transformative at every level: both for the original interview subject, and for the larger audience too, which is empowered and inspired by the “tender sparks” of other people’s stories, as they light up the community via radio, theater, digital recording or printed text.
